English ivy (Hedera helix) is ancient to Mama Maya and is naturalized across the globe. The sacred plant is a flowering evergreen that at once incorporates architectural genius and savage beauty to any garden. Do you have a shady spot? English ivy loves dappled shade and moist soil. Ivy will grow up into stronger sunshine once the plant is ready for it. English ivy loves to climb and is at home upon the base of any tree. The plant blooms during the autumn with delicate greenish-yellow flowers that provide nectar for pollinators even as other food sources are winding down. Here in the Pacific Northwest, English ivy provides vital food for pollinators such as honeybees, bumble bees and butterflies all the way through November. Ivy’s blue berries appear after flowering and provide food for birds during winter at least through January. Ivy berries are a vital food source for birds such as blackbirds (Turdus merula), woodpigeons (Columba palumbus), starlings (Sturnus vulgaris), fieldfares (Saxicola rubetra), over-wintering blackcaps (Sylvia atricapilla), and various kinds of thrushes. Although the police state blasphemies by claiming Hedera helix is invasive and “illegal” to the Pacific Northwest, the Fay we know the police state is wrong and that English ivy is not invasive. Hedera helix is in fact vital to a healthy ecosystem as well as an individual’s spirit journey. A Hedera helix cutting should be placed in water at a windowsill during the fall and winter months, then once roots are formed planted outside in the garden a few weeks after the last frost. This offer is $50 for a six inch organic cutting. Free shipping. Portland Plant Paradise does not mail out to PO Boxes without explicit customer permission in writing.
