The deodar cedar (Cedrus deodara) is native to the western Himalayas, eastern Afghanistan, northern Pakistan, north-central India, and western Nepal. This is a holy tree of the ancestors of the aforementioned earth plane regions. The tree is part of the higher altitudes of these sacred geophysical areas. The hardiness zone of the deodar cedar is 7 to 9. Some on the earth plane call this tree the “California Christmas Tree” and surely this creation of God is to be celebrated. Yet, you dishonor the ancestors by keeping any sapling forever beholden to anything but its wild heritage. At some point this one it’s going to bust out of your so-called container planting and become one with nature. According to the North Carolina State Gardener Extension program, the tree is a fundamental force in bringing back the western horned tragopan (Tragopan melanocephalus) a gorgeous bird of the ancients now endangered. The tree is also a fundamental part of the ecology of the Himalayan black bear (Ursus thibetanus) whose very existence has also been made vulnerable due to illegal pillaging of its habitats. A deodar cedar is going to grow to about 150 feet over about the course of a lifetime. Perhaps you take a sapling with your little one and plant it if not on your property then at a park you both regularly visit. Maybe you get a pen pal from Tibet who does the same over yonder and back in its native habitat. Oh the irony of the lifegiving forces of Mama Maya. You can reminisce about your little adventure over a pot of deodar cedar pinecone tea. The smell of the sap is heavenly pungent and just sweet enough such that you don’t even need to add honey. The essential oils of this tree conquer cough, cold, even asthma. The tea from the deodar cedar pinecones is nourishing, uplifting, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic. It makes you all calm and peaceful, detoxifies, and they say it makes for some beautiful skin. The skin being a very reflection of the current calamities your gut is going through. This is a miraculous brew from the Lord of Light himself. The visitors to your garden who share in the delights of this part of Eden are countless, including birds of all kinds including blue jays, cedar waxwings, finches, nuthatches, robins, squirrels, and you yourself.
