This variety of butterfly bush (Buddleia davidii) is native to Asia and naturalized across the globe. The hardiness zone of the Buddleia davidii is 5 to 9. Hummingbirds, butterflies, honeybees, and bumblebees absolutely love this plant; its sweet nectar literally drips like mana from heaven to become one with the awaiting tastebuds of these sublime winged creatures of the Fay. Southeast facing is just fine for this plant of the sun, and it should receive at least six hours of direct sun a day. The plant can do well with some dappled light, depending upon the intensity of the sun. The butterfly bush grows up to 10 feet tall and 10 feet wide, depending upon pruning. The plant will die back in Winter and is considered a deciduous shrub. Then, the butterfly bush will be in bloom mode by Summer and with beautiful, fragrant blooms lasting to Fall. The butterfly bush is a fast-growing shrub and can reach its full height and width in several years. Although it is fast growing, the shrub is not invasive and will co-exist in good balance with other plants in the cottage garden. Depending upon the climate, the plant can thrive in dappled shade during the hottest hours of the day. The plant likes a lot of rain and needs to be watered during the dry seasons if you keep it in a pot on the patio. Before long the butterfly bush like all other plants should be sowed into the garden. Once the plant becomes directly sown into the garden and matures, it should tap into a nearby tree and as such will not need to be watered as often. This offer is $35 for a 12 inch organic cutting.
