The peace lily advertised here is a variegated kind (Spathiphyllum domino). The peace lilies of the diverse genus Spathiphyllum exist in the tropical jungles of Central America, northern South America, and on certain South Pacific Islands such as la Isla de Coco in Costa Rica. The peace lily hardiness zone is 10 to 12. Native to a dense rainforest, the peace lily requires bright, indirect lighting. Moreover, the peace lily is at home in warm, humid habitats above sixty degrees Fahrenheit. The plant does best when it is watered thoroughly and then allowed to have its soil drain fully. The plant prefers that its soil is then allowed to dry out, before it is watered again. The plant does not like to become water-logged in soil. The peace lily can be content in a vase of water, however, as long as one will change the water regularly. The peace lily does well at balancing out moisture as well as diminishing toxins in the air. It is encouraged to move the peace lily outdoors during months in which the nighttime temperature does not go below about fifty-five degrees Fahrenheit. The peace lily should be kept hydrated and out of direct sunlight. The plant will bloom and rebloom with wonderful luminescent white flowers when it has sufficient water, light, and nourishment. The flowers of the peace lily contain both male and female reproductive parts. At the same time, the peace lily plant is pollinated by a diversity of bees, butterflies, such as the Monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus), moths, such as the Indian lily moth (Polytela gloriosae), and hummingbirds.
