Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) is native to wherever the wild pollinators will it to happen. This plant is also the real “crimson clover” of the Americas beloved by wild pollinators. The hellaciously hardy herbaceous grass is naturalized across the globe. The red clover hardiness zone is 3 to 9. The wild grass can grow from half a foot to a few feet tall, and it makes an excellent garden groundcover. It can be pruned to any size at will. The plant does great as a round-a-bout rhizome that it is by nature. As such, the plant will make its own way through a garden and grow throughout dappled shade and sunny spots. Once established, one only has to water the wild grass called red clover intermittently during dry seasons. Best yet one must never have to mow this gorgeous groundcover that displays fragrant, burgundy-colored flowers. ‘Tis a far better idea to gather those very flowers for its well-known medicinal uses. This wild grass appeared on my homestead after I chased away the charlatans who poison the land, and I pray it abides here such that a hoped-for harvesting may continue. The wild grass called red clover grows very well alongside all kinds of shrubs, trees, and flowers. In fact, red clover is fantastic at fertilizing all plants in a garden by putting nitrogen back into the soil. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds all pollinate red clover. The Monarch (Danaus plexippus), Viceroy (Limenitis archippus), and Orange Sulfur (Colias eurytheme) butterflies all enjoy red clover and are native, wild pollinators of the fabulous flowers.
